My Experience with RSS Feeds

Welcome back!

This week I will have two blog posts! Very exciting, I know! We were introduced to a program called Feedly. I had never heard of Feedly and therefore had no idea what it was or how to use it. But after

about five minutes of using it I gathered that you subscribe to blogs and their latest articles will show up on your feed reader. It will also suggest other blogs based off of your interests. In a way it reminds me of Facebook, but instead of keeping up to date on what your friends and family are doing, you keep up to date on what goes on in the blogs you are subscribed to. It is a very useful tool to keep all of the blogs you usually keep up to date on in one application, rather than opening tab after tab. You can also organize your subscriptions into different categories like “education” or “business.”

On my Feedly, I found a blog called TED Education that I thought would be very interesting. It is a variation of TED Talks that I have viewed in the past, because instead of watching a speaker, there is an animated video explaining a concept. Within this blog I found a video called How statistics can be misleading, which I thought would be very useful to me, as a student who does the majority of her research on the Internet. This video was very eye-opening into how a statistics can be manipulated into what the author wants you to believe, or what the author is attempting to prove. After watching this video I will now be very careful when using statistics and have more than one source to prove a statistic. I believe this is a very important video for anyone doing research to watch.

Until next time,

Emma

  1. Hi Emma,

I really like how you related feedly to facebook. So much so that I have mentioned this in one of my blogs because I found it not only helped me really understand what feedly is but could help other understand. There are only a few peoples blog that I have read thus far, but so far I like your blogs because they are very informative and written in a none aggressive tone and are easy to understand!

I look forward to reading more of your blogs, they are very helpful in creating my own.
